Javeriana visits Sciences Po, Loyola Paris and FIUC

SciencesPo – Loyola Paris - FIUC

October 14 – 15, 2024

Luis Fernando Múnera, S.J., Rector

Giovanni Calvano, Director of International Affairs

Father Rector Luis Fernando Múnera and the Director of International Affairs, Giovanni Calvano, visited Paris on October 14 and 15 to meet with representatives from SciencesPo Paris, Loyola Paris, and the International Federation of Catholic Universities (FIUC).

The purpose of these visits was to strengthen academic cooperation and explore new opportunities for bilateral and multilateral collaborations.

On Monday, October 14, the Rector and the Director of International Affairs began their visit with SciencesPo University, where they met with Sylvain Quatravaux, Director of International Affairs for the Americas, and Larissa Frozel, Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Following a campus tour located in the heart of Paris, they discussed several opportunities for extending collaboration between the two universities: joint organization of summer courses for incoming and outgoing student groups, renewal of the student mobility agreement, provision of Erasmus+ scholarships for incoming and outgoing faculty and staff, the proposal of a Dual Degree agreement for the Faculties of Political Science and International Relations, and potential collaboration with the "SciencesPo Alumni Charity Trust," an institute focused on implementing projects and programs with a social impact.

On Tuesday, October 15, Father Rector and the Director visited Loyola Paris University, a Jesuit institution with which Javeriana had not previously collaborated. They held a meeting with Alain Thomasset, Vice-Rector for Internationalization, where both parties expressed a mutual interest in establishing cooperative ties.

Key opportunities identified included a Dual Degree agreement for the Faculties of Philosophy and Theology, collaboration through research stays for PhD students from both universities, an agreement for providing scholarships for students, faculty, and administrative staff through the Erasmus+ program, and joint research projects focusing on Integral Ecology.

Following their visit to Loyola Paris, Father Rector and the Director met with the team at FIUC, where they held discussions with François Mabille, Secretary General of the network, Loïc Roche, Head of Communication and Training, Nicolas Vergier, Partnerships Manager, and Montserrat Alom, Director of CIRAD.

During the meeting, Father Múnera presented Javeriana's work on themes such as Peace and Reconciliation, Democracy Building, the Encyclicals Laudato Si and Fratelli Tutti, the Global Educational Pact, and Artificial Intelligence. Together with the FIUC authorities, they identified several collaboration opportunities, particularly regarding the inclusion of FIUC as a partner in the implementation of training programs, capacity building, and research projects focused on Democracy, Artificial Intelligence, and Peacebuilding.
