An Experience Abroad in Mexico

Hello everyone! My name is Andrés Pérez Narváez, and I’m currently studying Industrial 
Engineering in my seventh semester. I’m doing an academic exchange program at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, this experience has been far more than just academic. Mexico has welcomed me with incredible warmth, I’ve had the chance to deeply connect with its culture—whether getting lost in the vibrant streets of Roma Norte and Coyoacán, marveling at the stunning beaches of Oaxaca and Jalisco, or standing in awe before the towering mountains of Hidalgo. Each place has taught me something new and fueled my curiosity to explore even more.

It’s this very curiosity that has led me to live the Ignatian spirit in ways I never imagined. Through activities supporting migrants, I’ve been able to practice values like solidarity and social justice, two core principles that have shaped my journey here. Being of service to those in need has made me feel part of a community striving to make a positive impact in the world. This experience has been deeply transformative, not only connecting me to social realities but also strengthening my commitment to contribute to the well-being of others. It’s something I will carry with me always, both personally and professionally!

¡Hola a todos! Soy Andrés Pérez Narváez, estudiante de Ingeniería Industrial en séptimo semestre. Actualmente, me encuentro realizando un intercambio académico en la Universidad 
Iberoamericana en Ciudad de México, esta experiencia ha sido mucho más que académica. México me ha recibido con una calidez increíble, he tenido la oportunidad de conectar profundamente con su cultura, desde perderme entre las coloridas calles de Roma Norte y Coyoacán, hasta quedarme sin aliento ante las playas de Oaxaca y Jalisco, y la inmensidad de las montañas de Hidalgo. Cada lugar me ha enseñado algo nuevo y ha alimentado mi curiosidad por conocer más.

Esta curiosidad, precisamente, me ha llevado a vivir el espíritu ignaciano de una manera que nunca imaginé. A través de actividades de apoyo a migrantes, he podido poner en práctica los valores de solidaridad y justicia social, dos pilares fundamentales en esta experiencia. Estar al servicio de quienes más lo necesitan me ha hecho sentir parte de una comunidad que busca generar un impacto positivo en el mundo. Ha sido una experiencia profundamente transformadora que no solo me ha conectado con la realidad social, sino que también ha reforzado mi compromiso de contribuir al bienestar de los demás. ¡Es algo que llevaré conmigo siempre, tanto a nivel personal como profesional!
